Road safety

Knowsley’s Road Safety Team is committed to promoting road safety by educating children in all schools in the borough. As part of this approach, we deliver a range of road safety interventions.

Training

  • Guidance for parents and carers of all nursery and reception children
  • Child Pedestrian assessments for 5 year-olds. This includes a training guide for parents and carers to help improve children’s road safety skills.
  • Practical pedestrian training for Year 1 children.
  • Theatre in Education sessions for children in all Primary and Secondary Schools.
  • Pre-driver training sessions for Year 10 and 11 pupils.

Cyclist training

Child cyclists are amongst the most vulnerable of all road users. To help them to recognise and deal with hazards, we offer National Standards on-road cyclist training to children aged 9-11 in all Knowsley Primary Schools.

To take part in this training, children need to have a bicycle which is in good working order. They will also be expected to wear a cyclist helmet whilst training. Children who don’t own their own helmet will be loaned one during the course. There is no charge for this training and all resources are provided free of charge. Contact the Road Safety Team for more information.
