Physical regeneration

Work on the multi-million pound regeneration of Stockbridge
Village centre is now well underway to create a new swimming pool,
state-of-the-art gym and leisure facilities, learning resource
centre, police access point, primary school, children’s centre and
family centre, multi-use games area (MUGA) and a supermarket.
Cllr Dave Lonergan, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for
Regeneration, Economy & Skills commented:
“This regeneration project will completely transform Stockbridge
Village centre and provide first class facilities and spaces for
the local community to enjoy.
The redevelopment of Stockbridge Village has long since been a
major priority for the council and we have worked extremely hard
with our partners to bring to life the aspirations of the
community.”
The new primary school is due to be the first part of the
development completed in autumn 2011.
“This regeneration will make a real difference to people’s
lives,” said Knowsley’s Executive Director for Regeneration,
Economy and Skills, Nick Kavanagh.
“We worked long and hard to find out what local people felt they
needed and the planning approval means we can now realise a long
held ambition to make a difference here.”
The regeneration proposals complement other development projects
in the area, including an extension to the health centre and
provision of a new Play Pathfinder scheme in the heart of the
village centre. This work also supports activity by the council and
partners to improve the everyday life experiences and opportunities
for residents.
