Textiles in Action
Kirkby Gallery, 1 August – 8 October
This exhibition presents the work of the newly established
contemporary textiles network; ‘Re:View Textiles’. The network,
which is North West focused, consists of over 50 members who meet
every three months at The Bluecoat, Liverpool. This exhibition
profiles and explores the work of ten members. Each of the artists
on show explore, utilise and respond to textiles in unique and
personal ways, serving to blur the divisions between textiles as a
craft form and other practice based areas such as installation art,
sculpture and film. The artists are: Susan Beck, Ally Burr, Susan
Comer, Emma Gilmour, Rachael Howard, Amanda Jones, Tania Oakshott,
Deborah Payne, Eleanor Suggett and Christine Toh.

Sensational Ceramics and Animal Fantasies
Prescot Museum, 16 August – 18 September
Knowsley Arts & Heritage Service is delighted to present two
ceramics exhibitions being shown simultaneously at Prescot Museum,
‘Sensational Ceramics’ and ‘Animal Fantasies’. These new
exhibitions are on loan from the Ceramics Collection, Aberystwyth
University and present a beautiful array of objects exploring and
challenging our perceptions of what we know as ceramics.
Ceramics offer all kinds of exciting sensations - to the eye, to
the hand, to the lips and even to the nose. Things made of fired
clay are an intimate part of our everyday life, yet seldom do we
stop to consider their special physical qualities. From the touch
of a textured jug to the smell of a raku pot, ceramics can be
appreciated in a variety of ways.
Experience how they can awaken the senses, evoke a feeling,
recall a memory, or stir the imagination. Listen to the ping of
porcelain, the tinkle of a ceramic bell or the delicate sound of an
ocarina.
There will also be a number of art workshops accompanying this
