Knowsley GCSE students celebrate biggest ever success
24 August 2010
Knowsley’s students are celebrating the
biggest ever GCSE success in the borough as their provisional exam
results are published today, Tuesday 24 August.
Once again, Knowsley has shown increasingly
strong performance in the GCSEs, with 37.7% of
pupils achieving at least five GCSEs at grades A* – C, including
English and mathematics, an increase of 4.2 % on
last year’s performance. This is the 12th year of
increasing success in the borough.
The provisional results mean all of the
borough’s secondary schools now achieve a 30% pass rate compared
with only one in 1999.
Across the borough, the top performing
schools were Halewood Centre for Learning with 56% and St Edmund
Arrowsmith Catholic Centre for Learning with 54%.
Christ the King Centre for Learning
achieved a phenomenal leap of 15% from 20% in 2009 to 35% this
year.
Cllr Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for
Children and Family Services, said: “I am extremely proud as once
again, pupils, teachers and everyone involved with education in
Knowsley have worked exceptionally hard to maintain our highest
ever standards in GCSE attainment. This year’s results demonstrate
how Knowsley’s new Centres for Learning have significantly started
to boost performance and raise standards of learning even
further.”
Damian Allen, Executive Director of
Children and Family Services, said: “My congratulations go to
the students and teachers who have worked really hard to achieve
their goals. These provisional results demonstrate that our new
Centres for Learning are driving performance rapidly onwards and
upwards. The consistency of achievement we have seen over the past
few years clearly show the effectiveness of the partnership working
in the borough between pupils, parents, schools and Council
staff.
