Knowsley Council has now published the findings from the recent public consultation in Kirkby.

More than 900 residents took part, over a 5 week period (19th December 2011 to 20th January 2012), and shared their views on public services and future council investment into the town.

Cllr Dave Lonergan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Economy & Skills commented:

“In the current climate it is a really positive thing to be in a position where we are actively consulting with the community on investment into their area.

“We wanted to gain as many views as possible, particularly from people actually using the current town centre and by holding the consultation over the Christmas period – when the town was at its busiest – we were able to do just that.

“The findings have given us lots of information around the community’s current usage of key facilities like the One Stop Shop, Library, Civic Suite and Market. We have also gained a clear insight as to what matters most to our residents and where they would like to see the council’s investment go.”

As part of plans to regenerate Kirkby town centre, Knowsley Council has pledged £13 million of investment into public services. This will include the remodelling of the Kirkby Suite and improvements to Kirkby Market.

The findings from the public consultation will be used by the council as it develops final plans for this investment, which will be shared with the community in the coming months.

Cllr Lonergan added: “I would just like to thank every member of the community who took the time and effort to take part in the consultation. As we progress with this significant regeneration project your views are really important to us and I am pleased that so many of you wanted to take part and get involved in shaping your town centre.”
