Get on in school by getting online - Home Access Assistive Technology Grant

Qualifying families with school children have Special Educational Needs and/or severe disabilities in years 3 to 9 (aged 7-14) can now apply for a free bespoke computer and Internet connection under the Government’s Home Access Assistive Technology scheme.

A home access package includes:

  1. a computer
  2. service and support for one year
  3. computer-based assistive technology software and equipment
  4. one year’s internet access

To be eligible to apply for a Home Access package with Assistive Technology  you need to be the parent,  guardian or carer responsible for and living with a child who:

  • is in school years 3 to 9 (which normally means age 7 – 14)?
  • is eligible for Free School Meals?
  • has a Statement of Special Educational Needs or is receiving Disability Living Allowance?
  • who has not already had a computer from a Home Access package or any other similar programmes, such as Computers for Pupils?
  • or whose school/local authority representative can certify they have Assistive Technology needs?

When applying you need to provide an original copy of one of the following documents:

  • the Statement of Special Educational Needs for the child
  • proof that you receive a Disability Living Allowance for the child
  • certification from the child’s school or local authority of their need for specialist computer  equipment
