European Parliamentary Election - Notice of Election

North West Electoral Region

Notice is hereby given that:

  1. An election is to be held for EIGHT members of the European Parliament.
  2. If the election is contested, the poll will take place on THURSDAY, 4 JUNE 2009.
  3. Nomination papers may be obtained from and delivered in person, including deposits and consents, to the Regional Returning Officer for the North West, Room 134, Town Hall, Manchester, between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM from TUESDAY 28 APRIL 2009 to FRIDAY 1 MAY 2009 and between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM from TUESDAY 5 MAY 2009 to THURSDAY 7 MAY 2009.
  4. The deposit for each registered political party or individual candidate, being the sum of £5,000, can be paid by cash or bankers draft (banks operating in the UK or Gibraltar only) and with the Regional Returning Officer’s prior permission by electronic payment by credit or debit card except on Thursday 7 May (this may be subject to an additional transaction fee).
  5. Applications to be included on the register of electors or for postal or proxy votes MUST reach the relevant Electoral Registration Officer for the applicant and not to the address given below. Information about Electoral Registration in your area can be found at www.aboutmyvote.co.uk or www.northwestvotes.gov.uk.
  6. Applications to be included in the register of electors to be used at this election must reach the appropriate Electoral Registration Officer by TUESDAY 19 MAY 2009. All applications and notices in respect of postal voting, those in respect of changes to existing proxy vote arrangements and or to substitute an existing proxy vote for a postal vote, MUST reach the appropriate Electoral Registration Officer by 5:00 PM on TUESDAY 19 MAY 2009, if they are to be effective for the election.
  7. All applications and notices in respect of new proxy voting arrangements (except on grounds of medical emergency) must reach the appropriate Electoral Registration Officer by 5:00 PM on WEDNESDAY 27 MAY 2009, if they are to be effective for the election.
  8. All applications and notices in respect of proxy voting arrangements on grounds of disability if the applicant becomes incapacitated after 5pm on 27 May 2009 must be received by the appropriate Electoral Registration Officer by 5:00pm on THURSDAY 4 JUNE 2009, if they are to be effective for the election.
