Supported Living

Supported living provides housing related support to help
vulnerable people to live as independently as possible in the
community. This could be in their own homes or in hostels,
sheltered housing or other specialised supported housing.
It provides complementary support for people who may also need
personal or medical care. Supporting People only funds housing
support. This can be part of a package of differently funded, but
co-ordinated, support which meets the needs of individuals.
Supporting People offers support with:
- Debt counselling
- Life skills training
- Form filling
- Advice on paying bills
- Provision of emergency alarms
The programme can help those who are at risk of losing their
tenancy and those who may possibly become homeless in the
future.
For more information about this programme in Knowsley please
call 0151 443 4759.
Are supported living services free?
The staffing provided as part of services is free to people who
use them but there may be other charges. These depend on what your
income is and if you are in receipt of housing benefit . These
costs can include:
- Rent
- Housing management such as signing up to your tenancy, security
of the building
- Communal charges such as electricity and heating to communal
areas of the building
- Meals
There is a cost to receiving most long-term supported living
services . The types of services this can include are sheltered
accommodation, supported lodgings and shared group
living.
If you are in receipt of housing benefit then Knowsley Council
will usually pay this for you. If you are not eligible for housing
benefit we may still pay this for you depending on your financial
circumstances.
Download the fairer charging
policy (PDF, 89KB) for more details about costs. Contact
Knowsley Customer Access Team on 0151 443 2600 to find out if
your support will be paid for by Knowsley Council.
How do I find a service?
All of our services are listed in our directory of services.
What do I do if I am not happy about the service I
receive?
If you are not happy with your service then tell the people who
support you. All supported living providers have a complaints
policy that explains how you can make a complaint.
- You should receive a copy of this policy when the service
starts to support you.
- Your complaint should be dealt with following the
procedure.
- You should be told what the outcome of the investigation into
your complaint is
- If you are not happy with the outcome of the complaint you can
appeal the decision
- If following the outcome of the appeal you are still not happy
with the outcome of the complaint you can complain to the Knowsley
