Fairtrade BoroughKnowsley is a Fairtrade Borough. This means we are committed to supporting farmers in the developing world.  We do this by promoting the principals of Fairtrade and increasing the sale of products with the Fairtrade Mark, which means that farmers receive a fair price for the products they produce.

Knowsley Council works in partnership with Fairtrade Knowsley, the local Fairtrade steering group, to fulfil the goals required to be a Fairtrade Borough. The goals are:

  • Passing a resolution to support Fairtrade and serve Fairtrade products.
  • Ensuring a range of Fairtrade products are readily available in the Borough.
  • Providing an understanding of what Fairtrade is and encouraging local work places/businesses, community organisations and schools to promote Fairtrade and use Fairtrade products
  • Attracting media coverage and popular support for the campaign throughout the Borough.
