Household waste recycling centres in Knowsley
Merseyside Waste Disposal Authority operates a number of
recycling centres across Merseyside. The Knowsley sites are based
in Huyton and Kirkby.

Opening hours
From Saturday 1 October, 2011 until 31 March 2012, the centres
will be open from 8.00am until 5.00pm – changing from the summer
hours of 8.00am to 8.00pm.
Recycling Centre Van Permit Scheme
A Permit Scheme for van and commercial-type vehicles accessing
Knowsley’s Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) comes into
force on 1st January, 2011.
If you’re planning to use a van or large trailer to use Kirkby
or Huyton Household Waste Recycling Centres, you will need to apply
for a permit.
The vehicles which require a permit are: vans;
estate/hatchback/4x4/car with rear seats permanently removed and/or
blanked out side/rear windows; any ‘flatback’ or pick-up vehicle;
trailers between 2 and 3 metres long.
You do not need a permit if you are using a car, or a car with a
trailer that is less than 2 metres long.
