Town centre security

Town centre management initiatives are seeking to reduce crime
and social problems within Knowsley’s town centres.
Working together with the Police, local businesses and the
public, our security teams throughout the borough provide an
outstanding service in Knowsley’s town centres.
Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and radiolink
CCTV and the retail radio scheme operate in Huyton, Kirkby and
Prescot town centres.
The radiolink allows staff to share information on the movement
of shoplifters as well as locating lost children. The spirit of
co-operation has kept crime levels down to a consistently low level
over the past few years.
CCTV surveys shopping areas, car parks, bus stations and the
approach to roads in the area. The Huyton multi-storey car park has
been awarded the AA and ACPO (Automobile Association and
Association of Chief Police Officers) secured car park award.
This recognises additional measures taken to improve security.
In addition, regular patrols of the area are carried out by
security staff during shopping hours.
Public access
The public can apply for access to information held on CCTV only
in specific circumstances – there is no public access to taped
material other than in connection with the investigation,
prosecution or prevention of crime under the guidance of the police
and criminal evidence act criteria.
