Preventing burglary and vehicle crime

Burglary

Marking valuables, such as DVD players, cameras and televisions, with your post code, will help identify your property if it is stolen.

Security tips

  • Secure all doors. If your front and back doors are not secure, neither is your home. Main entrance doors should be fitted with a five-lever mortice lock.
  • Secure all windows before leaving the house and fit window locks.
  • Consider having security lights installed if you do not already have it.
  • Remember to activate your burglar alarm when leaving the house and when you go to bed.
  • Fit substantial padlocks to garages and sheds and never leave outbuildings unlocked.
  • Remember to security mark property.
  • Never leave keys on show and don't leave them near the front door.
  • Consider setting up a Home Watch in your area.
  • Close your curtains and blinds so theives cannot see valuable items such as plasma TV's.
