Knowsley Core Strategy

What is the Core Strategy?

The Core Strategy is the central, overarching strategy within the LDF. It will set out a vision, key objectives and strategic planning policies for Knowsley up to and beyond 2027, including identifying the scale of new development and the locations within which major new developments will be focussed. It will include area-specific policies relating to strategic regeneration projects, as well as a range of borough-wide policies related to thematic areas such as housing, the environment and sustainability. The Core Strategy also plays an important role as the central delivery plan for the Knowsley Sustainable Community Strategy.

The Core Strategy will be the first Development Plan Document (DPD) to be adopted as part of the Knowsley LDF. The content of subsequent DPDs and Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) will be influenced by the strategic policies within the Core Strategy.

Core Strategy Preparation

The preparation of the Core Strategy is a multi-stage process, involving several stages of public consultation, supported by a range of assessments and research. The preparation process has to be undertaken in compliance with national planning policy, with relevant regulations, and also with the council’s adopted Statement of Community Involvement. The stages of preparation are outlined below (current stage highlighted in bold). It is anticipated that the Core Strategy will be adopted as part of the council’s LDF in 2013.
