Listed buildings
Buildings and structures can be listed if they
are considered to have special character, architectural or historic
merit are nationally important and worthy of preservation. The
older a building is the more likely it is to be listed.
There are 121 listed buildings in Knowsley. 1
Grade I, 4 Grade II Star, the remaining 116 are Grade
II. English Heritage is responsible for listing buildings of

Categories of listed buildings:
- Grade I buildings are of exceptional interest, sometimes
considered to be internationally important.
- Grade II Star buildings are particularly important buildings of
more than special interest.
- Grade II buildings are nationally important and of special
interest.
