Marriage venues and fees

A marriage can take place at any of
the following venues:
- A register office
- An approved venue (non religious building or licensed venue
such as a hotel or civic building)
- A Church of England church
- Any other religious building
All marriages must be registered so you must
ensure that you give notice of your intention to marry
before making any other arrangements, with the exception of
marriages taking place in a Church of England church.
Church of England does not come under the Civil Registration
Service so you must contact the Vicar of the church for advice
on legal requirements for marriages and fees.
A registrar from the district covering
the venue must be present, or the governing body of the
religious building can choose an authorised person to register the
marriage instead of the registrar.
