Citizenship ceremonies
If you have been granted British citizenship,
you must attend a citizenship ceremony within three months of
approval being granted, or you may need to make a new application
for citizenship.
The idea of the ceremony is to welcome you
into the local community. You will take an oath to Her Majesty the
Queen and a pledge of loyalty to the UK.
How do I arrange a ceremony?
Knowsley Register Office makes arrangements
for ceremonies for Knowsley residents.
When you receive your letter of approval from
the Home Office, you should contact the Knowsley Register Office to
find out which ceremony you may attend.
What does it involve?
The standard group ceremony will include the
following:
- Introduction and welcome
- Address by local dignitary
- Swearing or affirming the oath and pledge
- Official response
- Presentation of the citizenship certificate.
The Home Office will send you a copy of the
oath and pledge. On the day of the ceremony you must bring your
approval letter from the Home Office or the letter you receive from
Knowsley Register Office. You must also bring your invitation
with you, or you may be refused admission to the ceremony.
Private ceremonies
Ceremonies are usually conducted in groups to
highlight the community nature of citizenship. However, if
you feel that you would like more guests to attend or wish to
celebrate in a more personal way, Knowsley
Registration Service can offer a private ceremony for a
fee.
The private ceremony fees from April 2012 to March 2013 are as
follows:

The Garden Gazebo

* During autumn and winter months, the Gazebo is only available
for ceremonies in daylight hours. Indoor venues at the
office are not affected, however please note the garden will
not be open for photographs.
