Crackdown on anti-social behaviour

Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council are continuing their efforts to crackdown on anti-social behaviour with the introduction of a 'designated area’ in Whiston.

The designated area comes into effect on Monday, 16 June 2008 and will operate from 5.00 pm – 12.00 midnight, 7 days a week. The order will run for a period of 3 months (until 22 September 2008).

Police Officers will be using powers under the Anti-Social Behaviour Act which means officers can move on youths who gather in groups of two or more within the designated area. Those who return within 24 hours can be arrested.

The introduction of the designated area is aimed at combating ongoing problems with anti-social behaviour in the Whiston Area. The ‘designated area’ is bounded by and includes Saunders Avenue, Molyneux Drive, Shaw Lane, Bryer Road and Cross Lane (see map attached).

Inspector Mark Scraggs commented "The designated area has been introduced in response to concerns about groups of youths who hang around the area. The designated area will complement action already being undertaken by Neighbourhood Officers who, together with Community Support Officers, have been carrying out high visibility policing in the area to act as a deterrent and provide a reassuring presence within the local community.”

The Safer Knowsley Partnership, which includes Merseyside Police and Knowsley Council, is not prepared to stand for the anti social behaviour exhibited by a minority of young people and will use every power available to us to reduce anti-social behaviour in the Neighbourhood and take action against offenders.

If you have information about anti-social behaviour, or those behaving in an anti-social manner, call Merseyside Police on 0151 709 6010. Alternatively, you can call the Knowsley Anti-Social Behaviour Hotline on 0151 443 2000.
