A brighter horizon for young families

New Horizons

A new centre dedicated to helping the families of young children has officially opened in North Huyton.

The New Horizons Children’s Centre is based on the Longview Primary School site in Knowsley Lane.

It was built with the help of the North Huyton New Deal for Communities and offers all sorts of services for parents and children with the focus on under fives.

It provides a wide range of services for every member of the family which include child and family healthcare, parental outreach and family support, integrated education and childcare, help and support for parents interested in employment and training.

A couple of open days have allowed local people to see what the centre is like and to chat to staff about what help they can give.

“We want to make sure local parents and young children have the best opportunities possible. The opening of New Horizons means that we now have 15 Children’s Centres across the borough offering top quality services in a fun, secure and caring environment, “ said Cllr Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services.

Barbara Kelly, North Huyton Area Children’s Centre Manager said: “ We work in partnership with parents and a variety of agencies to provide services and activities such as ante-natal and postnatal care, healthy eating, weaning advice, pre-school development groups to name just a few. .

“But we are also here to help mums and dads – they can meet other parents and get help with their own health, careers and education.”

The centre was officially opened by Cllr Eddie Baker, Vice Chair of Governors for Longview School and former Mayor of Knowsley.

Winning artwork from a competition in Longview and St. Columba’s schools is displayed in the corridor linking Longview Primary and the centre.

Barbara said: “The pictures look wonderful and really add to the warm and friendly atmosphere that so many people have commented on.

“I would urge the whole community to come and see what’s on offer and tell us what services they would like to see.”
