Knowsley leads the way for more play

Knowsley Council has been awarded Play Pathfinder status and been given a £2 million cash injection to improve children’s play spaces and help combat childhood obesity.

This investment will build 11 brand new play spaces for young people across the borough. Included are three major play spaces costing over £400,000 each as well as a further 24 schemes boasting super-size climbing frames, assault courses and play rangers.

The measures will mean even more free activities for different age groups, needs and abilities throughout the day, week and school holidays.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Community and Culture said: “This investment is great news for children and parents across the borough. Getting our youngsters out and about and involved with healthy and exciting exercise will help develop their overall health, well being and confidence.”

“This is a fantastic opportunity for Knowsley residents to really get involved in helping shape the ideas for these brilliant facilities which will be spread across the whole of the borough.”

This further investment will help the borough continue in its commitment to green space which has already seen six parks receiving Green Flag status.
