Support for residents foils car crime in Southdene
Following a spate of vehicle crime in the Southdene area of
Kirkby in Knowsley, the Safer Knowsley Partnership has acted
quickly by providing practical advice and support for residents and
vehicle owners in the area.
The partnership, working with the local neighbourhood police and
warden teams, is distributing Vehicle Safe packs which include UV
pens to mark all belongings such as Sat Nav’s, CD Players and
tools, Window Hangers for cars and vans – these tell thieves
that all belongings within the vans are marked and traceable. The
partnership also provides some extremely useful information for
residents to help protect themselves against crime.
For those particularly vulnerable residents, the Safer Knowsley
Partnership is providing a device called the remote alarm –
this is activated in the home when a vehicle has been tampered
with.
Councillor Jackie Harris, Cabinet Member for Community Safety and
Social Inclusion, in Knowsley said of the initiative:
“We are really keen to make sure that all residents and
vehicle owners in Southdene have as much information and help as
possible. This initiative proves how, by working in partnership, we
can tailor crime prevention and protecting residents to a
particular need. This is a particular problem in a particular area
– and we are addressing it with a range of activities that
will work.”
