Website help for Knowsley's young people
Young people in Knowsley with a problem can now get help and support from counsellors quicker than ever before - online.
Many young people struggle to talk about problems with people that they know or even via a telephone helpline.
Kooth.com is a free and confidential website where young people aged 11 to 25 can talk with trained counsellors and advice workers about anything from health and relationship issues to school worries or family problems.
They can log in or out wherever and whenever they choose and
remain anonymous if they wish.
In addition to the confidential counselling service, there is a
message board where young people and counsellors can post messages,
a space for blogs and an online magazine. All content posted on the
site is moderated, making it completely safe to use. The site also
offers information about local services, events and news.
The service has been commissioned for use in Knowsley by the Council, the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service and other partners.
Damian Allen, Knowsley’s Executive Director of Children’s Services said: “The emphasis of the website is on preventative services – it will enable young people to access skilled help and advice before a problem becomes a crisis. It will also help us and our partners to see what sort of issues are occurring regularly and where we might have gaps in services. For these reasons its arrival in Knowsley is very welcome.”
Kooth.com was built and is run by an organisation called Xenzone
which has won a number of awards for the website. Currently, eight
north west councils have commissioned Kooth including neighbouring
Wirral, St Helens and Halton as well as Knowsley.
