Indoor canoeing comes to Huyton Leisure Centre

This Easter Holiday Huyton Leisure Centre’s swimming pool was used for something other than swimming – canoeing!

‘Paddlesport Start’ is a nationwide initiative introduced to give young people grounding into the basic skills required for canoeing. Mark Bishop a qualified canoe instructor took the youngsters for a week long course which consisted of three key elements - personal paddling skills, experimentation and theory.

The young people who enjoyed the canoeing lessons at Huyton Leisure Centre are among the first in the country to receive the British Canoe Unions new ‘Paddlesport Start’ award certificates.

Steve Fox, Leisure Centre Manager said “Our priorities are to offer safe, enjoyable and affordable activities for young people. We want parents to be able to sit back and enjoy watching their children learning new skills, taught by qualified staff, reassured with the knowledge they are doing so in a safe and friendly environment. The Paddlesport Start initiative achieved all of this and more!”
