Kirkby's new £12million leisure centre is to get state-of-the-art interactive fitness equipment
Knowsley Council has invested a further £40,000 to make
Kirkby the nation’s first leisure centre to have the Xer
dance system and sport wall.
The system includes 16 hi-tech arcade-style Xer-Dance platforms and
a state of the art sound system.
The dancers move their feet to the latest chart songs, following
dance routines projected onto the wall.
The interactive gym equipment also boasts three giant computerised
‘Sportwall’ panels with hundreds of games based on
points/lives won and lost.
Participants score against the clock by zapping lights on the
panels, simultaneously tracking a ball, targets, sounds, scores and
a time clock, earning extra points for skill, speed, cardiovascular
stamina and team co-operation.
The equipment is versatile enough to be used by adults AND
children, and there will be family sessions as well as classes for
people aged over 50 and GP referral groups.
Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Leisure
Community and Leisure, said: “Research constantly shows that
many young people aren’t doing enough exercise and these
dance platforms are an exciting way to buck the trend.
“We are delighted to be able to offer local youngsters the
chance to workout on such innovative, exciting and fun
equipment.”
