Knowsley joins in Capital of Culture celebrations
Celebrating 2008
Knowsley Council have launched their guide and events programme for 2008 as we join
the region in celebrating Liverpool as European Capital of
Culture.
‘Celebrate, Innovate, Create, 08’ provides an enticing
introduction to Knowsley but is also part of the authority’s
ongoing mission to improve the lives of people who live here and
inspire them to try out something new.
Throughout 2008, events reflecting the area’s rich history in
arts, heritage and sport will take place across Knowsley in
museums, galleries, parks, leisure centres, libraries, Knowsley
Hall, the National Wildflower Centre and other tourist attractions
across the Borough.
There will be live theatre and dance performances, gigs, classical
concerts, exhibitions, tours, talks, music festival, sporting
events, family events and community festivals - many free of
charge.
Knowsley’s Cabinet member for Leisure Community and Culture,
Cllr Eddie Connor said: “This year is a special year for the
whole region and we are delighted to join Liverpool in the
celebrations.
“But the events are also part of our regular work to inspire
local people into having more active lives and participating in
cultural activities that help them to achieve their potential,
giving them the opportunity to try out something new and widen
their horizons.”
