Huyton flood update - 4 January 2008
Knowsley Council, and its partners, are continuing to work
together to address the problems caused by the aftermath of last
weekend’s flood.
Our priority is to make sure that people are safe and that the
recovery to properties and roads continues as quickly as
possible.
Around 50 properties have been damaged by flooding. Contractors
working on behalf of United Utilities have now completed the
clean-up of internal properties. The repair to the burst pipe is
also complete.
Dehumidifiers, heaters and driers will be supplied to homes that
need them by the end of Friday.
All schools in the area are unaffected by the floods and will open
as usual. However, travel to schools may be affected due to the
continuing road closures and bus diversions.
There are still significant road closures on the A57 Liverpool Road and a number
of bus diversions still in operation, and as from Monday temporary
road signals will be in place.
Knowsley Council will be assessing the damage to the roads
tomorrow; until that has been completed the council can not confirm
when this work will be finished.
The Fairclough Centre, Liverpool Road, Huyton is continuing to
provide help and support to residents and is open between 10am and
5pm weekdays and Saturday 10am – 4pm to offer advice and
support to anyone affected by the flood.
A community meeting is being held at the River Alt Resource Centre
at 6pm on Monday 7 January to discuss the ongoing recovery
plan.
For specific queries relating to water damage and claims contact
the United Utilities emergency advice line on 0845 746 2200.
Media briefing on travel information around A57
Huyton:
From Friday 4 January 2008, the A57 Liverpool Road will be closed
as follows:
- Eastbound – from its junction with Kingsway through to its junction with Primrose Drive / Bluebell Lane.
- Westbound – from its junction with Primrose Drive / Bluebell Lane through to the petrol station adjacent to Cuper Crescent.
- Seth Powell Way will remain closed in both directions from its junction with Woolfall Heath Avenue to its junction with A57 Liverpool Road.
The changes to the closures on Liverpool Road will allow traffic
accessing Huyton Town Centre to use Kingsway. This should reduce
the congestion which has been reported along Woolfall Heath Avenue.
A route has now also been made available through the site for
pedestrians.
The diversion route currently signed for motorists is via Princess
Drive, Deysbrook Lane, Mab Lane, Waterpark Drive, Stockbridge Lane
and Knowsley Lane (and vice versa). From Monday 7 January 2008,
there will be temporary traffic signals at the junction of
Stockbridge Lane / Knowsley Lane. These aim to minimise the
disruption to drivers and will remain in operation whilst the
diversions are in place.
A number of bus services have also been affected and alternative
routes have been put in place for these services as follows:
- 10B outward - From Bluebell Lane, straight onto Primrose Drive, left onto Woolfall Heath Avenue, right onto Terminus Road, left onto Stockbridge Lane then straight across to Liverpool Road.
- 10B inward – From Liverpool Road (McDonalds), left onto Stockbridge Lane, right onto Heath Road, left onto Woolfall Heath Avenue, right onto Primrose Drive then straight across onto Bluebell Lane.
- 10 and 10A outward – From Liverpool Road right onto Primrose Drive, left onto Woolfall Heath Avenue, right onto Terminus Road, left onto Stockbridge Lane then straight across Liverpool Road.
- 10 and 10A inward – From Liverpool Road (McDonalds), left onto Stockbridge Lane, right onto Heath Road, left onto Woolfall Heath Avenue, right onto Primrose Drive then left onto Liverpool Road.
