Keeping children and young people safe in Knowsley
The ways in which children and young people are being protected
from harm in Knowsley are outlined in a key report.
Addressing issues such as bullying, road safety and child abuse is
the responsibility of Knowsley Safeguarding Children Board (KSCB)
which has just published its first annual report.
The task of the board is to ensure that all those organisations
which provide services for children and young people have the
correct policies in place to protect them and that staff have
appropriate training. It also works to raise awareness about
matters of concern to young people, such as safe surfing of the
internet.
Damian Allen, Chair of Knowsley Safeguarding Children Board said:
“The Board wants to make sure that children and young people
in the borough enjoy life and achieve their potential while
remaining safe and protected from harm, whether it be at school, in
the community or at home.
“This report sets out the ways in which the Board has
addressed this over the past year and its priorities for the coming
three years.”
Copies of the Annual Report can be viewed in Knowsley Council

Note to editors
Examples of work overseen by the Knowsley Safeguarding Children
Board include:
Recruitment of staff – ensuring that all organisations have
recruitment processes that will protect children and young
people
Domestic Violence – Knowsley has introduced multi-agency Risk
Assessment Conferences to discuss cases of domestic violence where
risk is escalating. These conferences identify ways to safeguard
children and young people who may be caught up in violent
relationships.
Internet Safety – Schools across Knowsley took part in a
poster competition to help raise awareness of the potential dangers
of abuse through use of the internet. Winning entries will form
part of a continuing campaign in the borough.
