Knowsley celebrates primary progress
Knowsley is celebrating progress in many of its primary schools
which are showing significant improvement on previous years in the
Primary school league tables published today (December 6).
One of its schools, Our Lady’s in Prescot, is celebrating 100
per cent of its pupils achieving the expected level 4 or above in
English, maths and science tests and Prescot Primary School appears
in the national table of top 100 schools for Contextual Value
Added. Eastcroft Park School in Kirkby and Overdale School in
Kirkby are among the schools showing the most improvement.
Overall, in the contextual value added table Knowsley is 19th in
the country. Knowsley has seen improvements in all three subjects
and outstripped the national average rate of improvement. In
English, there has been a three percentage point increase over last
year compared with a national one percentage point. It has moved up
20 places in the national table. In both maths and science there
has been a 2 percentage point increase compared to one percentage
point nationally. This has resulted in a seven place improvement in
the maths table and a leap of nine places in the science
table.
Councillor Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for Children’s
Services said: “We are committed to giving all our pupils the
best education and we have three exciting new primary schools in
development – a new two form entry school in the Northwood
area of Kirkby; a joint Catholic and Anglican primary on the site
of the new North Huyton Learning Centre and the redevelopment of
Greengates School in Halewood as a new two form entry school.
Although Knowsley’s figures are still slightly below the
national average the above average rate of improvement is pleasing
and shows that we are moving in the right direction.”
