Making the right choice for your child

Yvonne Rowlands

Parents in Knowsley now have help to find the right school for their child.

Yvonne Rowlands is a Choice Adviser and works to make sure parents have all the information they need and fill in the appropriate forms when their child is moving from primary to secondary school.

Parents must also apply for a primary school place for their child and Yvonne helps those struggling with that process, as well as children who are transferring schools and parents whose first language is not English.

She said: “It is part of my job to let parents know how important it is for their child’s future to look at what options are available.”

Yvonne was one of just thirty five Choice Advisers in England when she was appointed and recently joined a party of local government officers who were invited to Downing Street to talk about the role.

Cllr Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services in Knowsley said: “This new role is crucial as we must help all parents access and engage with their child’s education and enable them to make informed choices.

“This is particularly important over the next year or so as Knowsley’s Building Schools for the Future programme means all of our secondary schools will eventually be replaced by state of the art learning centres.”

Parents who would like to contact the Choice Adviser call 443 3283, or 07919 111285 or log on to www.knowsley.gov.uk/choiceadvice
