Watch out for bogus council officials
Residents are being asked to be on their guard after reports of a house-to-house caller who falsely claimed to be working on behalf of Knowsley Council.
Recently, a resident in Lordens Road, Huyton, was approached by a female caller claiming to be carrying out a survey on behalf of the council. She asked the man a series of questions, some of which asked him about his income and other personal details.
The caller then asked the man to sign the survey but left him no copy of the document.
Knowsley Council are now warning people to be wary of callers who claim to be working for the council but cannot prove their identity.
Cllr Ken Keith, Knowsley Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate and Customer Services, said “All our employees carry identification to prove that they work for Knowsley Council. If you are in any doubt about the caller’s authenticity, ask them which council department they are from and then telephone the council and check that they are who they say they are. Genuine council workers will welcome identity checks as they help to ensure residents’ safety.”
If residents do need to check the identity of council workers they should contact 0151 489 6000.
