Kirkby residents encouraged to stay fit and active

Kirkby residents are being encouraged to use other sports facilities throughout Knowsley for the next two weeks before the new £12m state of the art sports and leisure facilities opens.

The old Kirkby Sports centre and Ruffwood pool are now closed for public use to enable staff to be trained and equipment to be delivered to the new facility.

During this transitional period the nearest pools are at Scotchbarn in Prescot or Huyton and Halewood leisure centres. The nearest ‘Active Gym’ is Heatwaves in Stockbridge Village, gyms are also available at Scotchbarn, Huyton and Halewood leisure centres where exercise classes are also available.

From Monday September 10, Kirkby residents can take advantage of a preview week at the new sports and leisure facilities. They will be able to see the many facilities on offer which include a large pool, learner pool, sports hall and fitness gym. There are also two multipurpose halls for activities such as martial arts and aerobics benefiting both individuals, schools and sports clubs alike.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Community and Culture, said: “Knowsley Council would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience caused during this transitional period. We hope that residents will work with us and enjoy the fantastic new £12m leisure centre when it opens later in the month.”
