GCSE success for Knowsley pupils

Pupils celebrate GCSE results

GCSE exam results have improved in Knowsley for the ninth year running.

Early analysis indicates that the percentage of pupils obtaining at least five passes at grades A* - C in Knowsley has increased by two per cent to around 50 per cent.

The analysis also shows that there has also been an increase in the number of pupils gaining 5 A* to C passes including maths and English.

A number of schools and individual pupils have shown outstanding success.

The highest performing school is Brookfield in Kirkby with 67.9 per cent of pupils obtaining five or more A* - C passes. Higher Side in Whiston was the most improved, with an increase of 19 percentage points since last year. Bowring School in Huyton continues its year on year improvement with a 7.5 percentage point increase and Knowsley Hey School, also Huyton has seen an 8.6 point increase. The increase at All Saints School, Kirkby was 10.7 points.

Cllr Graham Wright, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services said: “I offer my congratulations to all those who have worked hard and done so well. The future looks bright for these individuals and, with the coming of the new learning centres, for those pupils who will be sitting their GCSEs in years to come.”

Damian Allen, Knowsley’s Executive Director of Children’s Services said: “Once again, the hard work of pupils and teachers harnessed to some really effective initiatives has paid off. The impact of curriculum development and the contribution of Knowsley’s 14 – 19 Collegiate continues to add value to individual pupils’ outcomes and progress.

“This year it was also pleasing to see an increase in the number of 5 A* - C passes which included maths and English and this figure will be further enhanced by the proportion of pupils gaining other functional English and maths qualifications such as Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALAN).
