Kirkby's history is a masterpiece

Hundreds of Kirkby people have been taking a trip down memory
lane for an exhibition of art commemorating their town’s
history.
The Kirkby Life exhibition, which opens on September 10 at Kirkby
Gallery, Newtown Gardens, is a collection of memories, stories,
objects, images and conversations with local people about their
home town.
Artistic contributions have been pouring in from past and present
residents of Kirkby in many forms – everything from
postcards, pictures, paintings and written work.
Knowsley Council’s Arts Service have also been working with
local groups to encourage them to get involved. Recently, Kirkby
Vocational Support Services worked with artist Julie Ruth Anderson
at a visual arts workshop based around maps and people’s
journeys through Kirkby. The finished artwork will be displayed as
part of the Kirkby Life exhibition.
Organisers are still interested in hearing from any local residents
who have memories of Kirkby and who would like to get
involved.
If that is you, contact Jo or Sarah at Knowsley Arts Service on
0151 443 5617 or email arts.galleries@knowsley.gov.uk.
Kirkby Life will open at Kirkby Gallery on September 10 and run
through to November 29.
