Potter mania sweeps Knowsley's libraries
Harry Potter mania arrived in Huyton as fans of the boy wizard
queued up to collect their copies of JK Rowling's last installment
in the popular series.
Copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows flew off library
shelves on Saturday when the book was published.
And Harry Potter is not the only fantastic read for young people in
Knowsley over the summer holidays.
Youngsters are being urged to join the Big Wild Read - which will
see them enjoy some fascinating books and even winning
prizes!
The theme of this year's read is nature and the environment and
children of any age can take part by enrolling at their local
library. There they will receive a reading folder, an activity
booklet and a packet of flower seeds, which they can plant and then
watch grow over the summer. Each time they return after reading two
books, they will be given even more goodies including stickers,
bookmarks and fridge magnets. Once the children have completed the
challenge by reading a total of six books, they will be entered
into the Big Wild Prize draw.
Part of the BBC’s Breathing Places campaign, which is working
to bring the public closer to nature , The Woodland Trust has
promised to plant a tree for every book read and young people can
also win books for their school by participating.
Other Big Wild summer activities include the Big Wild Read Craft,
Silky Skills Football Demo, Indian Dance, Story Telling, Mini
beast’s Workshop, Dog Trust, Bat Talk and Zoolab Animal
Talk.
For adults, Knowsley libraries stock all the Richard and Judy
Summer Reads as well as offering fax and photocopying services and
free internet access.
So get down to your local library for your holiday reading and
travel guides.
We are open from 9.15 to 7.00 on Monday and Friday; 9.15 to 5.00 on
