Dance down to ugly bug ball

Young people across Knowsley are taking part in a fascinating
dance and art workshop inspired by an encounter with creepy
crawlies!
The sessions, which are being delivered by Merseyside Dance
Initiative (MDI), mainly focus on dance and movement for two to
five year olds using the interesting theme of little beasties.
Books used as inspiration for the programme include
‘Aaaarrgghh, Spider!‘ by Lydia Monk and Eric
Carl’s ‘The Very Busy Spider’.
The workshops follow on from the annual extravaganza that is the
Green Fayre, which this year housed a Mini Beast themed Early Years
area. This gave local young children, parents and early years
practitioners a one day taster of the project, in anticipation of
the forthcoming six week programme.
To coincide with this impressive creative learning project, MDI are
launching an Early Years Mini Beast Resource Pack, which will be
available for purchase. Included in the pack are exciting mini
beast fact sheets crammed with easy to understand information on
dance, movement and art activities related to a wide variety of
mini beasts including spiders, honey bees, wood ants, caterpillars
and butterflies.
The workshops programme was organised by Early Years Arts
Coordinator Hilary Keating.
