Residents look ahead to week of action
A week of action - including health, employment, community
safety and environment – takes place this week in
Huyton.
Residents in St Gabriel’s ward will be taking part in a
variety of workshops and events designed to help improve the area
and give advice on leading a better lifestyle.
The week rounds up with a celebration day at Millennium Green,
Millbrook Park, where all residents will be treated to
entertainment ranging from African drumming, recycled art, climbing
wall, ballroom dancing and a falconry display.
The aim of the week is to offer local residents advice about the
services that exist to help them – whether they are
interested in employment or training, tips on healthy living,
advice on how to keep their children amused in the summer holidays,
or information on green issues.
The action week begins on Monday (July 23) with a health and
healthy living theme. Tuesday (July 24) focuses on employment and
training, with experienced advisors on hand to offer advice and
support for all age groups and all circumstances.
Wednesday (July 25) looks at safer, stronger communities and
community safety, exploring local concerns regarding crime, anti
social behaviour, fire safety and general community safety.
A showcase of the services offered by Knowsley’s
Children’s Centres and the local Surestart takes place on
Thursday (July 26), along with information about activities that
are taking place in the borough for older children and young
people.
And, on Friday (July 27), the attention is turned to the
environment and clean and green issues. This includes information
about graffiti removal, litter picking, skips as well as how to
make the most of local recycling services.
All sessions take place at the InfoZone, Manor Farm Road, between
10am and 3pm.
The Millennium Green Celebration Day, on Saturday, July 28, 12-4pm,
will also include arts and crafts, a bee keeper, belly dancers, a
roving magician and live music from Street Feet. Knowsley
Council’s Rangers service and library bus will also be
there.
In addition, there will be the opportunity to meet with
representatives from local organisations including Knowsley Housing
Trust, Merseyside Police, local Neighbourhood Wardens, the IKAN
team (offering advice to older people), Citizens Advice Bureau,
Merseyside Fire Service, the Employment Engagement Team, Home Start
and the Horticultural Society.
