Awards for healthy schools

Healthy schools

Nineteen schools across Knowsley are celebrating after being awarded ‘Healthy School’ status.

They met the standard of the National Healthy Schools Programme which supports the links between health, behaviour and achievement.

Being a healthy school means that the whole school community including pupils, staff, governors and parents are involved in supporting children by focusing on:

  • Personal, social and health education
  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Emotional health and well-being

At a recent ceremony, Healthy Schools Awards were presented to the following Knowsley schools: St. Margaret Mary’s Junior, Huyton; St. Dominic’s Infant, St. Dominic’s Junior, Huyton; Brookfield High, Kirkby; Cherryfield Primary, Kirkby; St. Marks RC Primary, Halewood; Springfield Special School, Kirkby; Cronton CE Primary; Holy Angels Primary, Kirkby; St. Joseph the Worker Primary, Kirkby; Plantation Primary, Halewood; Ravenscroft Primary, Kirkby; St. Marys and St. Pauls Primary, Prescot; Bowring Community Sports College, Huyton; St. Edmund Arrowsmith High, Prescot; Blacklow Brow Primary, Huyton; St. Columbas Primary, Huyton; St. Aloysius, Huyton and Prescot Primary.

Damian Allen, Knowsley’s Executive Director of Children’s Services said: “This is a great achievement by so many schools and demonstrates how committed we all are to making a difference to the health and achievement of our young people.”
