Get your Kickz from football

A new community project in Knowsley is offering free,
professional football coaching to teenage boys and girls.
The Kickz project offers coaching from Everton and Liverpool
football clubs at Heatwaves Leisure Centre in Stockbridge
Village.
It runs three nights a week for a full year. Football nights are
Monday 5-7pm and Thursday 5–7pm. On Fridays, from 6.30pm
until 9pm, there will be a choice of arts, sports and creative
activities.
The project begins on Monday, July 9, and is open to anyone aged 12
to 18, boys or girls, from throughout the borough.
The project is the result of a major partnership between the
Football Foundation, Merseyside Police, Knowsley Council, Liverpool
and Everton football clubs.
It is hoped the scheme will engage young people and help cut down
on anti social behaviour.
Kickz is part of a national programme and was officially launched
by the former Prime Minister Tony Blair last year.
Cllr Bill Weightman, ward councillor for Stockbridge, has been
heavily involved in the push to get the Kickz project in Knowsley.
He said: “This is a really exciting project that we hope will
attract lots of the young people in our area.
“This is a chance to get some top quality coaching and gain
excellent skills that can affect the future lives of the young
people that get involved.
“We are also hoping that this will deter some people from
getting involved in anti social behaviour by providing a really
attractive alternative.”
