Healthy week is a hit in Halewood

Pupils, staff and parents of Plantation Primary school in
Halewood are feeling fine after an action packed Health Week.
The school on Hollies Road dedicated the week to keeping fit and
healthy, discovering that exercise can be fun and healthy food
tastes great!
Pupils and their parents were invited to try out a range of sports
and activities that many had never experienced before, such as
boxercise, judo and street dancing. There was also healthy
pampering such as relaxation classes, hand and arm massage and
holistic therapies. Before and after classes, pupils who do not
already take the “walking bus” to school were
encouraged to give it a try and see for themselves that walking to
school can be fun, healthy and safe.
Meanwhile, there were plenty of tasty treats to make and try at
sessions including healthy eating lessons, a junior junk food
workshop and a visit from the mobile veggie van. In addition,
children were given a taste of the Mediterranean life during a
culture day at which Spanish food was served for lunch.
Mums and dads didn’t miss out, being offered Indian head
massage, Reiki and relaxation sessions to help improve health and
reduce stress.
The week finished with a Walk for Health which was enjoyed by both
parents and children and took in some of the neighbouring fields
and green spaces.
Marie Kempsell, learning mentor at Plantation Primary, said:
“It was an extremely busy week and one which was thoroughly
enjoyed by everyone. The pupils, staff and parents all got to
experience plenty of new things and I think the week demonstrated
that making a few changes to your lifestyle can not only be
healthy, it can be really enjoyable too!”
Cllr Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at
Knowsley Council, said: “Learning about healthy living is a
valuable lesson for life which we want all children in Knowsley to
benefit from.
“Healthy weeks like these help us to show youngsters the
importance of keeping active and eating a healthy diet. Not only
that but Plantation Primary have encouraged parents to become very
involved with what they were doing which is fantastic.”
