Angels celebrate skills

Pupils from Holy Angels RC Primary are celebrating after the
school was awarded a quality mark from the Basic Skills Agency for
the third time in a row.
Holy Angels, on Sidney Powel Avenue, Kirkby, has been a quality
mark school since 2001, since when the agency has rewarded the
school for its constant progress.
The basic skills quality mark in primary schools is intended to
provide a framework for the continuous improvement of the basic
skills of all pupils in the school, especially those who were once
underachieving. In order to be awarded the mark the school is
examined by judges who assess 10 key elements of the school’s
performance.
Head teacher of Holy Angels, Ann Coffey, said: “We are
delighted to have been awarded the quality mark for the third
successive time.
“It is a reflection of the hard work and dedication of our
staff who are committed to encouraging all our pupils to ensure
they perform to the best of their abilities in everything they
do.”
Cllr Graham Wright, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services,
said: “Congratulations to all the teachers, pupils and
parents at Holy Angels who have all played an important part in
improving the basic skills levels of everyone who is educated at
the school.
“Basic skills are such a fundamental element of a young
person’s education and their importance cannot be
underestimated. By ensuring that every pupil is given the best
possible help and encouragement to build up these skills the school
is helping to ensure each child benefits from greater life chances
for a considerable time into the future.”
