Yobs Put Lives At Risk
Vandals who attack fire crews are being
warned that they will face the
strongest penalties possible under the
law.
The warning comes after a fire fighter was attacked by a gang of youths whilst attending an emergency call on Reeds Road, Huyton, late Tuesday night.
The fire fighter was hit on the head by a brick in a senseless attack and was left shocked but not seriously injured thanks only to the protection of his fire helmet.
Alan Penton, Knowsley District Manager from Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said: “This was a completely unprovoked and unacceptable attack on one of our fire fighters who was just trying to do his job’’.
“Unfortunately incidents like this happen frequently, not just in Knowsley, but across the country. As a service we are working extremely hard with our communities and particularly the young, running initiatives including visits by fire fighters to local schools and the Prince’s Trust Team Programme.
“But we also want to send a strong message to offenders that their actions are treated extremely seriously and the consequences for those involved will be the strongest possible that can be taken using the full scope of the law.
“We are installing CCTV in our fire engines which are intended to assist in preventing these incidents occurring.”
All the agencies who make up the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership are now joining the Fire and Rescue Service to re-iterate the strong message that the behaviour of yobs who attack fire crews will not be tolerated.
Anyone with information about this or similar incidents, or who knows of persons responsible for attacking fire crews, should report them anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
