Help Us Transform Tower Hill

A transformation is getting underway – and residents of Tower Hill are being asked to have their say on how they want the area to look in years to come.

This area of Kirkby will be transformed into a safe, attractive and quality place in which to live.

Knowsley Council and partners Knowsley Housing Trust in conjunction with Merseyside Police and the PCT, is embarking on the second stage of the Transforming Tower Hill programme by canvassing local people for their ideas on what they would like to see for the area.

The regeneration project aims to make long term sustainable changes to all aspects of Tower Hill. Proposals include the creation of a redesigned, safe, tree-lined urban park with housing to all sides and new, well lit roads and footpaths. The park will include facilities for young people and will be designed to reduce anti-social behaviour and provide a new heart to the Tower Hill community. These investments will compliment the works already being undertaken to refurbish the existing housing stock in a multimillion pound programme of works started in 2004 and still ongoing.

Already changes are starting to take place in the area, with the opening of a brand new LIFT (Local Improvement Finance Trust) health centre and a community centre which is nearing completion. In the future, there are plans for more facilities for young people, better sports provision, improved transport links and extra childcare services, to name but a few.

Now residents are being urged to have their say on the project by taking part in consultation sessions starting next week.

These begin in the new Tower Hill Community Centre, Ebony Way, on Monday, January 30, from 9am to 8.30pm and again on Tuesday, January 31, from 9am to 5pm. The consultation will then move to St Andrews Church Hall on Wednesday, February 1, between 9am to 5pm.

The event will be a chance to see the new centre and view some of the draft plans for the transformation of Tower Hill, as well as plenty of opportunity to have your say and get involved in all future decision making for the area. All visitors will also be offered free refreshments.

Cllr Ron Round, Leader of Knowsley Council, said: “This consultation is an important opportunity for local residents to have a real influence on the future of their area. Our long term goal is to improve quality of life for each and every resident in Tower Hill, as indeed our new agenda Making A Difference to People’s Lives includes every resident in Knowsley. Therefore it is crucial that people get involved to make sure they have their say on what happens.

“Many positive things have already happened in the area, with a brand new health centre and community centre about to be opened. Our aim is to literally transform the experience of living on Tower Hill by tackling a wide range of security, social and quality issues.”
