Knowsley's 'Space Age' Coming To A Road Near You

mobile library
Knowsley’s new eye catching ‘space age’ Mobile Library has taken to the streets of the borough and will be visiting a road near you soon.

That is the promise made by Knowsley Libraries’ Outreach Team who spent the last 12 months preparing new routes in anticipation of the arrival of the new mobile library vehicle.

“We have managed to introduce 70 new stops in areas that previously had a limited or no service at all”, said Kathy Allen, Outreach Co- ordinator. “The new routes have been developed after extensive discussions with Knowsley residents in an effort to better meet their needs. In the last year we have conducted door-to-door surveys, talked to people in the street and at local shopping centres as well as attending numerous local festivals and events. People who attended Knowsley Flower Show last August even had the chance to preview the new vehicle. The information we gathered has been invaluable in helping us plan the new routes as we look to develop a mobile library service for the people of Knowsley that is second to none.”

The exterior graphics of the mobile library vehicle depict planets in the solar system and represent the never ending knowledge that is available through Knowsley Libraries. It sounds very high-brow but the ‘space age’ design was chosen after consultation with residents from 3 to 80 years of age and it has already proved popular. “The design has a wow factor” said one young user and “Very 21st Century” said another.

The new mobile library is free to join and open to everyone. it provides access to books for adults and children - including talking and large print books, DVD’s and Videos and will be on a street near you soon.

Full details of the mobile library timetable can be found by visiting www.knowsley.gov.uk/leisure/libraries or by ringing the Outreach Team on 0151- 443-4223.
