Knowsley Stages World Cup 2006

soccer tournament
Knowsley will stage its own ‘World Cup’ when the biggest tournament in the youth football calendar kicks off in July.

Teams from Iceland, Canada, Germany, France, Republic of Ireland and China have already entered for the two competitions. The Liverpool-Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament is for teams in the Under 11 to Under 18 age groups and the Liverpool Knowsley Mini Cup is for the under 7 to under 10’s.

“Now we want to make sure local teams register their interest in the tournaments before all the places are taken”, said tournament organiser Eddy Jennings. “We had 135 teams taking part last year including 25 from abroad, representing eight different countries. The quality of the football played last year was of a very high standard and at times it was exceptional. That is why the tournament is now considered by many to be the best of its kind in England.”

The Liverpool-Knowsley International Youth Soccer Tournament is due to take place between Tuesday 25th and Sunday 30th July at Geoffrey Hughes Playing Fields in Allerton. The entry fee for boys teams applying before 1st March is £90 - after this date the cost increases to £120 - and £45 per girls team.

The Liverpool-Knowsley Mini Cup will be held at King George V Sports Complex in Huyton over the previous weekend (Saturday 2nd and Sunday 23rd July) with an entry fee of £45 per team.

Further information on the tournament can be found at www.LKsoccertournament.com and application form are available from Eddy Jennings in the Tournament Office on 0151 443 2154 or by email at eddy.jennings@knowsley.gov.uk.
