Recycling On Your Doorstep

42,000 Knowsley residents, over the next few months, will be personally asked to help meet recycling targets.

In the latest imitative by Knowsley Council’s Environmental and Operational Services Department a third of the borough’s population will be called upon in a door stepping campaign.

Through the campaign the Council is aiming to increase its recycling rate from 7% to meet the Government target of 15% for 2005/06 by promoting the kerbside collection scheme and interact with residents on current recycling issues.

Two recycling awareness teams, from the consultancy firm Enventure, will be targeting specific areas wearing recognisable uniforms displaying the ‘recycle for Knowsley’ logo and will have official ID.

Peter MacLeod, Knowsley Council’s Environmental and Operational Services Director, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for us to promote the kerbside collection scheme to residents and increase participation. During the campaign we will also be asking residents to answer a short questionnaire to provide us with valuable information which will be used to develop and improve recycling in the borough.”

Cllr Bob Swann, Knowsley’s Environmental and Operational Services Cabinet Member, said: “Knowsley is committed to recycling with 51 sites throughout the borough. This year we have also started collecting cardboard in the blue bins so there is no excuse not to recycle especially when we collect it from your door.”
