• Bright Sparks Reach For The Stars

Pupils at a Knowsley school have been reaching for the stars as part of their latest fascinating project.

Children from St Gabriel’s primary, Huyton, have been working on a science project called Earth, Sun and Moon. And they received a visit from experts at the Jodrell Bank Observatory in Macclesfield, who brought the galaxies closer than ever before!

With the use of an incredible inflatable planetarium, the pupils were able to gaze at stars, planets and far away suns, learning about our solar system and the wonders that inhabit it.

As part of the Observatory’s education initiative, two astronomers gave talks to every year group in the school, tailoring it to the different age groups and giving Year Five – who had been working on the science project – a more in depth experience, exploring constellations and the names of the Zodiac signs.

Teacher, Teresa Turton, said: “It was a wonderful experience for all the children, and particularly interesting for those in Year Five who had been studying the topic. In fact, many of them have now asked to visit Jodrell Bank in the future.

“We are very grateful to the observatory for coming along and bringing the project alive for our children. It is something they will remember for a long while and they all seem to have gained so much from taking part.”
