Knowsley's Green Give Away
Come on down the price is right for the
Knowsley FREE compost giveaway of the
century. Residents in the borough are
being given the chance to collect two
bags of compost.
The free compost, made from bio- degradable waste collected from every household in the borough, will be available on Saturday October 22 from three locations throughout the borough between 10am and 2pm.
Stadt Moers Country Park, Pottery Lane Whiston and Millennium Park, Okell Drive, Halewood and Millbrook Park, Millennium Green, Old Hall Lane, Kirkby.
The giveaway is celebrating the success of the scheme but is also aiming to encourage more residents to take part in recycling green waste.
Cllr Bob Swann, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Environmental and Operational Service, said: “Knowsley council is taking this opportunity for people to receive something back for their effort in separating their waste for composting. As the blue bins are being used by more than 35,000 households across the borough we want to encourage people to start and continue with this worthwhile initiative.”
Supplies are limited to 60 litres, the equivalent of two medium sized carrier bags, per person. The event is being organised by Knowsley Council as part of the Merseyside Composting Network promoting good composting practice.
Peter MacLeod, Environmental and Operational Services Manager, said: “The green waste collection has been available to every household in the borough. But we are aiming to encourage more residents to take part as household waste is increasing by 3% a year at the same time that government limits have been set on the amount of Bio-Degradable that can go to landfill.”
