Knowsley Against Racism Campaign Launched

A celebration of culture and diversity within Knowsley will officially launch an anti-racism campaign for the borough.

Highlights of the family-orientated day will include a children’s football tournament, basketball coaching, live music and dance performances from many well known local bands and acts as well as football coaching clinics run by Liverpool and Everton Football Clubs.

One of the exciting aspects of the event, being held on Sunday 23rd October at King George V Sports Centre in Huyton, will be the opportunity to sample different foods from around the world.

The event kicks off at 10am with the aim of the day being to bring people together, through lively and family focused activities that celebrate diversity, highlight different cultures and give out a strong anti-racism message.

The Knowsley Against Racism campaign is a long-term strategy to work with the local community to ensure all residents feel welcome, accepted and safe, irrespective of their colour, race or religion.

Knowsley Council and its partners are committed to tackling racism in the borough, changing public attitudes and encouraging people to report racist abuse or behaviour.

Cllr Ron Round, Leader of Knowsley Council, said: “In Knowsley we are committed to providing quality of life for every resident of the borough. We recognise the level of reported racial abuse is not the full extent of the problem in our community and we want to encourage the people of Knowsley to work with us and our partners to stamp out this despicable behaviour.”
