TV Personality Goes Back to School

The famous face from Ormskirk cut the ribbon at the All Saints RC High Sixth Form Centre on Bewley Drive, Kirkby, opening the new learning facility.
Funded jointly by the school, Knowsley Council, and the Catholic Archdiocese, the centre has been used by students for the past year but was enjoying its official opening in the presence of Jon and other dignitaries from the borough.
The Sixth Form Centre allows students to study for A levels and other further education courses within a self- contained facility, which meets all their learning needs.
The centre boasts modern classrooms, an office and a social area for students, as well as wireless technology allowing the use of laptop computers and video conferencing. The building – which consists of a new extension and an existing area of the school, which has been renovated – has been designed as a flexible space, allowing the rooms to be used for several different purposes.
And the new centre is already proving to be an inspirational learning environment for the current cohort of sixth form students who achieved the best ever GCSE results in the history of the school.
Head teacher of All Saints, Brendan McLoughlin, said: “We were delighted to welcome Jon to the school to officially open our fantastic new sixth form centre.
“We have always believed that this new facility would make an enormous difference to the attitude and motivation of our students by giving them modern, inspirational surroundings in which to study”.
A favourite on British television and radio, Jon is known for appearances in programmes including Alter Ego, 2DTV, The Impressionable Jon Culshaw and most recently, Dead Ringers. He is a successful TV writer and was also a regular on the Radio One Chris Moyle’s Breakfast show, impersonating many celebrities, from Patrick Moore to Obi- Wan Kenobi.
Cllr Nolan, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said: “It is great to see the positive impact on learning that this new facility is having for the students who attend All Saints in Kirkby.
“Knowsley is committed to providing the highest quality education for all of our students in learning centres fit for the 21st century, which is why we are undertaking our ambitious Building Schools for the Future programme in the borough.
“The fact that the students at All Saints have already recorded an increase in exam success since this facility was built shows what a difference such a positive and motivational environment can have on pupils’ achievement”.
