Have Lunch on Us
No such thing as a free lunch? Well
there is if you are a Knowsley parent!
Knowsley Council is offering every
Primary School parent the opportunity
to have a lunch on them and try the new
healthier school menu.
Knowsley Council’s Environmental and Operational Services are launching their new primary and special school meals during National School Meal week 10-14 October 2005.
In line with the week’s theme Knowsley Council is continuing to provide healthy eating and meals within schools. The focus of the week is about improving young people’s recognition of different fresh ingredients, the importance of nutrition and a balanced meal.
Peter Macleod, Knowsley’s Environmental and Operational Services Director, said: “Knowsley has increased its budget by £150,000 to £1.5 million a year providing healthy meals for our primary school children, long before it became a national issue. We are committed to giving our school children the best from an early age and as such support the public health partnership promoting the obesity strategy - Energise Knowsley. All our primary school main courses are freshly prepared, and fresh fruit, vegetables and salad are available daily in all schools.”
During the week pupils will have the opportunity to enter a healthy eating competition to design their own pizza.
Cllr Bob Swann, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Environmental and Operational Services, said: “Here in Knowsley we are committed to providing better health and healthy living and by starting in our schools we are able to tackle this early on. Our new menu supports healthy options and foods with high nutritional value. Our main priority is to provide school meals with high nutritional value for all our children.”
