Take a journey through time in Knowsley

Published on: Thursday, 05-November-2015

Residents are invited on a journey through time during Explore Your Archive Week, with events taking place in Knowsley from 10 to 20 November.

The Archive Resource for Knowsley - ARK - is inviting people to drop-in and discover what life was once like in our communities through the fascinating collections of stories, films, photos and other artefacts.

Archives across the UK and Ireland are taking part to raise awareness of the value of archives to society and of the rich variety of content that is held, preserved and made available to users.

Cllr Eddie Connor, Knowsley Cabinet Member for Public Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Visiting an archive can take you on an amazing journey and you may end up discovering much more than you imagined. Archives are full of fascinating content to explore which isn’t available simply by surfing the internet. I’d encourage everyone to take time to visit ARK during National Archives Week as whether you’re interested in sport, food or fashion you’re sure to find something which inspires you in the collections.”

As part of the special week ARK has put together a programme of free activities to showcase the kinds of things you can discover, This includes a behind the scenes tour taking in all of the facilities in the ARK, including the rarely seen treasures held in the archive strong room, as well as sessions with oral history recordings and popular local history films.
